XPS 8500 Error Code 01 42

I have a Dell XPS 8500 that shut down out of the blue saying its a data kernel error or something like that. Now when i start it up and enter my password it flickers between the desktop screen and the password screen.

I ran a test that said i have an error code 2000-01 42 which means i have a hard drive failure. But what kind of drive should i get and how do I install it? Also, how do I get windows back on and find the right drivers?

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks :)

Any 3.5" SATA desktop drive will work as a replacement.

If you did not prepare a set of recovery media for the system when you were prompted to at the first startup, you'll need to contact Dell to purchase a set of recovery media now.
