Xps 15 little click sound noise hard drive

 Hi,

I bought a xps 15 16 GB Hard drive Toshiba 1TB hard drive MSATA32GB . http://www.dell.com/ca/p/xps-15-9530/pd?oc=nxps154_bt_h1602e&model_id=xps-15-9530

When a use my laptop I hear a noise from the hard drive, like a little click and it appear like 5 times in 1 minute. But when I use my hard drive a lot, like I’m transferring data on it, I hear like 5-10 in 10 seconds. These are distinct, I’m not talking about the normal background sound of the hard drive working.

Somebody can tell me if it’s a normal sound for that computer?

Thanks for your help!

Martin

Hi martin,

Please run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

Also, please let us know from place you hear the clicking sound on the laptop.

Hi Ravi, thanks for the advice.

So, i did the “F12 "diagnostic” and it say "all tests passed”.

But the noise still there.

I went to Futurshop and Bestbuy to check similar laptop (xps 15 16gb 1T 1.7) and they are not make that  clicking noise.

Your service will call me tonight at 18h. I hope we will find a solution.

Hi Martin,

You can download MyDell from the link below and run the thorough test on the hard drive to check for issues

Also, please reconfirm to us from which side of the laptop is the clicking sound coming.

In addition, I would suggest you to try flashing the BIOS on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the operating system, and then download the BIOS from the BIOS section onto the system and install it.
