Writing problems with HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N

The referenced DVD drive is running on my Dimension 4600C. A while back, I wrote that the drive was not recognizing Sony DVD-RW disks, and Osprey led me to a firmware update, which worked for what I was doing at the time (playing pre-recorded disk on the PC)

 

Now, when I launch the computer's pre-installed Sonic RecordNow sw, the message "No compatible Recordable or Rewritable devices could be found on your system" emerges. Concurrently, any attempt to copy video files from the HD to the aforementioned type disk generates a similar message - that my DVD drive is read-only.

 

Can someone guide me through the maze?
