Why does the DVD drive work hit -and-miss?
This happens often. I am watching a DVD. I go to put another DVD in and all of a sudden I do not have a recognizable drive, even if I re-insert the DVD that just got done playing.
I have tried to deleting from the device manager and restarting the system all to no avail. Yes, I have checked drivers. When it decides there is no DVD player, there seems to be no fixing it. This has been happening for months and I'm just tired of it all. I have googled and tried everything I have found. Nothing works. Then, days later, it may reappear.
I have a Dell Inspiron 3558 x64. I have no idea what type of DVD player is installed.

Hi Dawn Renee Becker,
Please update the BIOS, Chipset and then CD DVD driver from our Dell Support site.
Please click my DELL-username and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your email address, so that we can check on the configuration.
