which ssd can i get
I would like to add a boot ssd to my inspiron 3847.
1.any problems
2. what ssd's will work
3.can install os from backup or is clean install better

Hi rhendrix9,
There's really no difference between an SSD and a regular hard drive as far as installing the operating system and running the drive. You'll need an mounting bracket to hold the drive inside your desktop hard drive slot. Cloning sometimes works, but we generally recommend a clean install.

An SSD will work fine in your XPS 8000. A clean install is the best way to ensure the OS is properly configured for the SSD.

Me thinks I may have been misinformed then.
I have an old XPS-8000, and I was told i could not put an SSD in it, is that right? If an SSD acts live a hard disk why would the computer know/care?
Would doing a clean install on a new PC speed it up by eliminating extraneous software? I knew it used to be recommended.but is it still true?
