Where's my DVD ROM gone??????????????????

Hi,
 
I hope someone out there can help!!!!!!!!!
I switched on my Inspiron earlier, and my DVD seems to have vanished!! Ran DELL diagnostic on DVDROM hardware and got this message:
 
ERROR CODE 0F00:0135
MSG: IDE DEVICE FAILED : UNKNOWN DIAGNOSTIC FAILURE
 
I have tried numerous SYSTEM RESTORE but none of them work windows can't restore to an earlier point!!
The light (on my DVD drive) is on but noone's home :smileysad:
 
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the drive seen in my computer?
Have a look in device manager and report back if you see any exclamation marks or error messages.

Hi,

 

It doesnt show up in My Computer or Device Manager its like I dont' have a DVD ROM

What model laptop is this?
If it is a removable media be model then try removing it from the bay then reinstalling it in case it is a problem with poor contact.

It's an Inspiron 5150 and my DVD is nec nd-5100a dvd+rw.

I'm not sure if its removable if it is how do I do this without damaging anything????

this will work wonders:

  1. Click the Start button, click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Click the plus sign (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. click the plus sign (+) next to SYSTEM.
  5. Click the plus sign (+) next to CurrentControlSet.
  6. Click the plus sign (+) next to Control.
  7. Click the plus sign (+) next to Class.
  8. Click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
  9. On the right hand side of the window, click UpperFilters.
  10. Click Edit on the menu bar.
  11. Click Delete, and then click OK.
  12. On the right-hand side of the window, click LowerFilters.
  13. Click Edit on the menu bar.
  14. Click Delete, and then click OK.
  15. Click File, and then click Exit.
  16. Restart the computer normally.
