WD ATA hard drive in my XPS 1640 is failing, I want to replace it but don't know if I need an IDE drive or PATA
Hello,
My XPS 1640 has a WD3200BJKT-75F4T0 ATA hard drive which is failing. I need to replace i but don't know if the hard drive is PATA OR SATA. Does anyone know?
Also, can I repave with an SSD instead of another HDD?
Thank you.

The drive is SATA -- and yes, you can use an SSD instead of a hard drive. Most new drives (both hard drive and SSDs) are 7 mm in height - your system is designed for a 9.5 mm drive, so you likely will need a spacer to install the slimmer drive.
