Upgrade Hard Drive
I am looking to upgrade my laptop (L502x) with a new Seagate Firecuda SSHD (2GB). Can anyone let me know if that is compatible with my laptop and will it be able to manage the 6gb/s quoted?

The drive will work, but hybrid drives are still hard drives at heart - you may see some circumstances near 6G/s, but in normal operation, the rotating drive will limit you to far less than that.
If you want consistent 6G/s performance, there's only one way to get it - install a SATA native SSD (not a hybrid drive). While hybrids are faster than conventional drives, they're a far cry from what a native SSD can deliver in terms of performance.

Thank you. Would a standard barracuda hard drive be as good - SSD would be better, but very expensive for a 2TB drive.

No. In order of performance, hard drive < hybrid drive <<<< solid state drive.

Thank you. Do I need a 7mm form factor disk drive? Will I need anything else to be able to upgrade (extra cables, adaptors etc) - I have replaced several drives in desktop pcs but not a laptop before!
Regards,
Phil.

The system is designed for a 9.5 mm drive - you can install a 7 mm drive (which is most hard drives and all solid state drives now) but may need a shim to do so:

Unless you're going to clone the existing drive (in which case you'll need an external USB adapter to hold one drive while you do) that plus the drive should do it.
