TSSTcorp SH-216DB bricked?

I installed this http://www.dell.com/support/home/gh/en/ghbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=NVP34 to update the firmware for my TSSTcorp DVD+-RW SH-216DB , and then it says "During Firmware flashing, abnormal situation was occured. The firmware could not be downloaded normally.   Automatically Firmware is flashed again. Please do NOT turn power off." and then it shows a bunch of squares for the error code. After I click OK, it says "Download Failed! Restart Windows and try again".

Unfortunately, now my firmware version for the drive is called "BOOT" and it won't eject or read any discs (It is still visible though and will allow me to flash). I looked all over the place, but Dell is the only one providing firmware for this drive, since TSSTodd is no longer functioning. Is there any way to update my drivers to a working state after this error?

Update: Nothing yet, I tried booting into DOS and flashing it, and it's still bricked with firmware version being "BOOT"

A failed firmware update can render your optical drive useless.

Better to replace the failed DVD/CD optical drive, DVD drives can be purchased cheaply for less than $20
