SOLVED _ Problem with my DVD/CD
Hello,
I have a problem with my DVD/CD . Although the Device Manager states, "This device is working properly.". it doesn't work at all.
I am highly suspicious of the cable connections. The cable was severely pinched by my grandson. It would not close, and instead of investigating the cause, he forced it closed.
So what I would like to know is if I can buy the cable online and install it myself. I have searched but can't find any place to buy one, and although I searched the Dell site, I couldn't find anything there either.
Thanks for reading...

I appreciate the replies and suggestions.
I finally had my problem solved by replacing the CD/ROM unit. I was lucky enough to get a secondhand one from a computer store for a very low price. So all is well.
Thanks again to all.

It isn't clear what cable you're referring to - it does not appear the drive connects to the system with a cable at all -- it simply slides into a connector on the mainboard.
Press F2 at powerup and go into system setup -- if you can't get the drawer to open on the drive there, you'll need to replace the drive.

Thank you for the reply,
No, that is not correct.
The drive connects with a multiwire cable. It is observable with the unit turned upside down. The cable is severely pinched.

Your unit seems to be an "external" CD/DVD drive.
Disconnect it from your computer, and take it to any computer-store, and show them the cable.
They should be able to replace it, instantly, for under $5.
