Sas HDD into SATA host...?
At the age of 3 score +5, I often need help w/ computer hardware. I now own (2) Sas 15k, 6.0 Gb/s, dual port HDD's bought in error. Handling fees & shipping prevent me from returning. I would like to use these in a couple of older Dell SATA desktops. I see low cost Sas controller cards for sale but am unsure if these are meant for my needs! I understand that SATA drives can sleep w/ Sas backplanes. Can I go the other way w/ one of these controller cards? I have seen the cards for as low as $7.00. Someday I hope to have an answer for a forum member instead of just questions, questions, questions. I remain...much obliged. Thank You, marcie6.

SATA drives generally work on SAS controllers -- the reverse however doesn't. You'll need a SAS controller to run SAS drives. The biggest issue: make sure any controller you buy has OS drivers for whatever OS you plan to run.

I plan on using Win 7. I am of the unconfirmed belief that there are no drivers for Win 7. I have read that elsewhere on this forum. Obliged, Marcie6.
