replacement Hard drive

Hi, the computer's hard drive is corrupt (dell diagnostic) and must be replaced.

Dell sends replacement drive....it has a sticker that says "Imaged" What does that mean?

Also, where are step by step instructions for making this swap?

It may or may not be possible to clone the existing drive - I would not try doing so directly to the new drive.  The old one clearly has bad sectors and is dying - the chances you can successfully clone the drive are slim.

Replace with the new drive and then connect the old one to the system and copy  your data over (you'll need to buy a SATA cable to connect the second drive).

Service manual:

Imaged means it's already prepared with the Dell factory image -- Windows included.

What model system do you have (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc.)?

enj63  Thank you.

Kinda strange tho - the Dell rep in my online chat said the hard drive replacement did not come with OS installed.

To Answer your question:  the system is Dell PWS Tower 7810.

Would it be plausible to clone the drive onto replacement drive?

The computer is still working - the issue is:

1TB hard drive  shows only 72GB free.  Where actually only roughly 90GB used with 680+GB  gone/full/used/corrupt.

yes, that is kinda what i figured ...just hate "re-inventing the wheel" when or if I don't have to ...but I guess I will just *** it up and start fresh....oh well, job security :)

Thank you very much for your feedback ejn63.
