Optical Drive GU90N recognised but not reading any discs?

I have an inspiron 7737 running windows 10. I have not required the optical drive for some time and now several months of updates later i discover it is not working!

it show in device manager and shows working properly (It's not)

Hve run all the diagnostics and trouble shooters but not help resolving the issue. I this a sofware issue? or do I hve a faulty drive?
