dimension 8250 I have been unable to turn on my computer, no power. Yet after I open my cdrom with the manual release the system turns on. Can anybody tell me what is causing this and the proper fix.

Hi WW2bar,
Open the case and re-seat the IDE cable going from the motherboard to the back of the drives on the Secondary IDE channel. Now see if the system will boot normally, if not click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 20, article 3, re-loading the Secondary IDE channel. If this does not work,
Disconnect the IDE cable and power cable from the CD-ROM and see if the system boots correctly.
If it works now, consider trying a new IDE cable, purchase a 40-pin 80-conductor type, usually around $10.00, if it is not the cable, then I would lean toward a failed drive.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
