Need help extracting old floppy files

So it just arrived from ebay, a  3.5" Portable USB 2.0 External Floppy Disk Drive for viewing my old photos. I have no idea how to see what's on my old floppy disks. I plugged in the portable drive & pushed in an old floppy disk. Being a novice I thought a window would open for me to extract what was on the floppy, but nothing. I have no idea what I'm doing & am going to need step by step instructions on how to do this for my OptiPlex 3020 Win 10. Kudos to anyone who can advise me. Thanks so much

seeAmerica,

You can do a google search on the internet for information using an external floppy drive in Windows 10. There should be many helpful articles.

Open up the file explorer - you should see an icon for Drive A (or whatever is assigned the disc drive you attached).

I opened the File Explorer & it did show a floppy disk drive A. However after pushing in a floppy disk which I know had pictures on it, I got message media not recognized, can't reformat, won't scan etc

This external disk was suppose to be usable on Win 10. Any suggestions what else to try? Below is the actual drive I bought

Could be a defective drive - or a defective diskette.  WIll any other floppies read in the system?

Windows 10 has no problems formatting or reading diskettes -- I have 10  with Creator's Update and it reads floppies just fine.

You may be correct,  spent hours yesterday reading reviews of the product & found many people did receive a defective unit. But then a lot of reviews made mention that it would work only on their older models. So I'm going to take it to the library next week to see what happens out of curiosity. In any case,

I will reply here for others to read the outcome!
