Loud Pop Noise Before Any Sound is Played - Workaround Solution
I am currently using a Dell G3 laptop and got the motherboard replaced before I found the solution to this audio popping problem:
After the system has not played a sound for a few seconds, the audio goes to sleep mode. Then when a sound is about to be played it wakes up with a loud POP before playing the sound. Dell had no solution after hours with tech support. The motherboard replacement did not work. Here is the workaround that worked for me:
1. Navigate Here to Registry
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\
Double check the word MEDIA is on the right hand side of the screen listed under Class. If so, proceed.
2. Click on 0001 to find "PowerSettings" (in older versions of Windows 10, this is in the 0000 folder)
Double check the words "Realtek Audio" are listed under "DriverDesc"
3. Click on PowerSettings
4. Change all 3 settings to ff ff ff ff. ConservationIdleTime, IdlePowerState, and PerformanceIdleTime. Do this by double clicking on each setting and replacing the 03 00 00 00 to ff ff ff ff. This makes the audio driver never go to sleep.
5. Restart your PC. Enjoy your audio!

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

I have searched for YEARS for the solution to this problem. I've suspected the driver sleeping was the issue for a long time, but I don't trust myself to mess with registries. After looking at your solution and the registry it changes, I decided to trust and follow this. Post-procedure this seems to have done what no other post could - my popping issues seem to be completely resolved. I haven't noticed an effect on performance either. Even though I am now certain this is a driver issue that Dell refuses to address, thank you so much for making this post! :D
