Looking for replacement Hd for 15R 5537 , not original ST500LT012-1DG142 by Seagate

My hard drive is failing after 4 years, I've always had them last must longer. Hoping to fine a compatible and inexpensive model that in not a Seagate. It s failed the diagnostic tests and from my experience I don't  have much time to wait.

Current one is 500GB 5400 and costs between 41 and 48 dollars shipped from Amazon. I'm having trouble finding a different brand though, and am unsure if it is compatible.

From what I'm seeing it's a 2.5 thin model, but even than I am unsure of. Though I could remove it and measure and such.

I'm hoping someone here has a suggestion I can purchase at Amazon, I have a gift card I would love to subsidies the cost.. Add insult to injury, the models Dell offers are too expensive, especially the SSD, which I just can't afford at the moment; but need to replace he Hard Drive soon. I'm very concerned it will totally fail soon,

I'm just so confused thought and was hoping for help. The original model didn't last long and has horrible reviews. Any suggestions, advice and a way to clear my confusion? My brain is muddled at the moment from and accident, otherwise I'd likely find something else that would work.

Sorry for writing such a long letter

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks is is advance. I've always gotten great advice and replies from everyone here, especially the volunteer experts.

Hope to hear from someone soon, Thanks for reading my ramble.

Darryl

Hey ehj63,

I decided on https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013QFRZL2/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it was less expensive by $10, had same specs and was shown to be the newer model.

I should have it in two days, or so. Expecting it to work out very well. I will post back here to report how things go, so you know and so others in the future are able to to find a complete solution if they were to need the same info as me; I know I just love having a full answer when I view a posting I've searched for.

Anyway, thanks again for your time and help. I was sick and injured and really needed the help, I was just not able to figure it out like I usually would.

Thanks.

Darryl
