Installing Seagate HD in Dimension 4700
I have a Dimension 4700 that contains a 80GB Serial ATA HD. During the after-ThanksGiving door busters, I bought a Seagate 120GB Upgrade Kit Internal HD. It wasn't till today that I opened it (and my Dell) and realized that I don't understand how to install this (if it's even possible). The Seagate comes with a ribbon cable that has three 40-pin connectors on it - one at each end, and one in the center. The problem, however, is that my existing drive doesn't have 40-pin connectors - it has two smaller connectors - they're really thin (compared to the 40-pin). The specifications for the seagate say "ATA/IDE Interface, Ultra ATA/100, 8-Mbyte cache, etc. Is there a way to make this work? If so, what do I need. If not, what type of HD do you recommend I get for the 4700 - either internal or external?

The D-4700 motherboard has only one IDE connector for two IDE devices, if you already have two IDE optical devices installed and there's a spare PCI slot, then you could buy a IDE PCI controller card [cost $25-$50] that has two IDE ports, allowing you to install four more IDE drives.
You could use an USB 2.0 IDE external enclosure, install the IDE hard drive in it, then connect the drive to a USB 2.0 port.
If you don't have a spare PCI slot, then you can use this convertor, personally I would prefer to use the PCI controller card or external enclosure.
