Installed 2nd Optical Drive But Windows 10 Doesn't See It.

I finally got around to installing a second optical (DVD) drive in my XPS8700 system. I connected it to the SATA2. The OS is Windows 10 Pro.

I have installed new drives into systems before with no problems. I.E., install it, turn it on, and away we go. Now however, it didn’t work that way. The door opens and closes, but the system doesn’t see it. Is there something I have to do with Windows 10 Pro, that I never had to do with other windows versions?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob,

It looks like the optical drive is receiving power but the Data cable may be not be functional. I would suggest you to swap the data cables or slots to check if the new optical drive detects in the BIOS.

Since posting the above, I checked the bios and the new drive is not in the bios.

Yesterday I opened the system for a couple of reasons. I found that the data cable was not seated properly on the drive itself. Works fine now.

Thanks for the help.
