Inspiron 15 7559 - upgrading SSD

Hi everyone,

I recently bought the Inspiron 7559, 16GB RAM, UHD/touch screen, 4GB NVidia, 1TB HDD and 128GB SSD. I have already swapped out the HDD for a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD. I am now considering swapping out the 128GB SSD for a 512GB equivalent. I realise this may cause me issues with cloning as the 128 GB is the C: drive but my issue is about SATA and PCIe.

The current SSD is a Samsung CM871 M.2 2280 128 GB. What I am looking to replace this with is a Samsung 950 PRO 512 GB SSD - M.2 2280 - MZ-V5P512BW - PCIe 3.0 x4 (NVMe). However, I cannot establish if this would work in my Inspiron 7559's M.2 slot. The existing SSD appears to be SATA and the preferred replacement a PCIe but I am not sure if the 7559 has a switchable M.2 port like some motherboards.

So my questions are - Can the Inspiron 7559 take the Samsung 950 Pro M.2 PCIe card and if not can anyone recommend a good 512GB M.2 SSD card to replace my existing 128GB SSD card?

Thank you

The M.2 port on this model is SATA-only - it will not support an M.2 PCIe or M.2 NVME drive.

The Samsung Evo line of M.2 SATA drives will work just fine.

thanks

I am considering adding a Samsung 860 EVO M.2 to my Dell 7559, but i cannot find any information about this disk working with it. Everyone who added SSD disk to that pc, uses Samsung 850 EVO. I know, both of these disk are SATA, but, you know, i would like to be sure before i spent money on that component. So, anyone can confirm taht Samsung 860 EVO will work with Dell Inspiron 7559?

Hello Brother,

Is your system running fine now? after the clone and ssd upgrade.
I also did the upgrade on my 7577 gaming laptop, everything is working fine except the one thing F12 boot menu shows, but does not go to OS Recovery it hangs on blue screen for a while and then laptop auto powers off it self.

any info you have for me, thanks!
