How to replace the HDD with SSD for Inspiron 15R 5521?
Hello,
I have Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 Intel i7 with Windows 8 installed. I would like to replace the Hard Disk Drive with the Samsung SSD 840 EVO-Series.
First of all, will this SSD be compatible with my laptop? Second, I have no idea how to install the Windows 8 and all the necessary drivers to have this laptop up and running again.
I have very little Operating System installation knowledge. Can someone please help me with step by step instructions?
Thanks.

Hi Daniel Hong,
That drive should work fine. I've got a link below to an operating system installation guide for your reference.

Hi Daniel, I'm a user of Dell Inspiron 15R 5521. I would like to upgrade my PC to Samsung 840 series SSD. Is there any compatibility problem? Are you satisfied with the performance?

Hi MKOCABAS,
The upgrade is very simple and it is compatible. Samsung 840 series SSD come with the software that clone your hard drive in your computer to exact same image on SSD, so after you swap the hard drives, everything on the hard drive appears on SSD.
Very easy and I am very satisfied with the speed of this SSD.

Hi
I had a windows 7 laptop. I copied the product key from the back of laptop, downloaded a new windows 7 from Microsoft. swapped the hd with ssd. boot the laptop and installed a new downloaded windows 7 from cd and entered the product key which I copied before. And then installed the required drivers.
But I don't know how to do in this in dell inspiron 15 5000 series laptop.
It doesn't have cd/dvd drive, no windows product key at the back of laptop.1TB hd.
I have just a 512 GB sandisk ssd. No cables, no cloning cds etc..
I don't want to buy new windows and install it. Just want to use the existing legal copy of windows or product key.
I have taken backup of data.
Please can u tell me how to proceed.
Thanks,
Aditya

Call Dell and have them send an installation set for the version of Windows 8 you have (NOT the recovery media). Unless the SSD is the same size or larger than the original hard drive, the recovery media will not work.
You can also clone the existing drive setup, but you'll need an external cable or case to hold one of the drives, and you'll need to make a bootable flash drive with the cloning software -- you can use the free version of Macrium Reflect to do the job.

The system will be fine once the hard drive -- which has failed -- is replaced.
