how to fully clone a laptop
Hi all,
I have a dell laptop, XPS 17 9710.
I'm purchasing a new one, the same model and the same features, for my boss and he would need that new laptop be the exact copy of the existing one.
then I'm going to clone them: can someone give me the procedure for this cloning?
thanks!
mf

Creating a .wim backup via the Control Panel's Backup and Restore(Windows 7) applet should do the trick. that being said there are several caveat's to this, I'm not sure what kind of environment you are in but restoring from a WIM file clone of the old system might cause some issues same with some software licenses that see the hardware is different, same with Active Directory domain joining, etc.
I would also have a USB stick with NIC drivers for the new laptop on-hand as a WIM clone might not have the newer drivers needed to connect to the internet and update the rest of the drivers
