How Large Internal Hard Drive Added to XPS 8700?
XPS 8700 Desktop
Latest Bios
Win 7 64-bit
1) I want to add a second drive, a 5TB storage drive, into a XPS 8700. How large of an internal hard drive can the XPS 8700 accommodate?
2) The boot disk is MBR, this 5TB storage drive will be GPT. Do I need to keep each partition of the 5TB drive under 2TB or can I exceed that size for any one or more of the partitions?

Hi I456kle9p,
Yes, it should work provide your Intel RST is the most current version. And with GPT, you can keep one large partition. Worst case, a cheap controller car will allow any drive to work.

Thanks for your response!
I wrote to the manufacturer after our earlier post on another thread and the manufacturer support suggested I check with Dell about hard drive size. And, yes, the NAS drive will work fine in a regular desktop, with no increase in heat or noise vs regular drive.
