In many cases the BIOS should automatically detect the presence of a drive and configure itself accordingly. Under the system configuration > drives category, you should see the drives that have been detected by the computer, and from there, can be enabled/disabled as needed.
If you are cloning an existing drive, a program like Macrium Reflect Free should be able to see the new SSD within Windows. If it does, the SSD will be usable after cloning.
If you are planning to use the new SSD drive for additional storage, it will not appear in Windows until you manually partition, format and assign a drive letter (unlike a flash drive or external hard disk, which is already performed from the factory). This can all be done under the Disk Management utility. Upon opening Disk Management, if you see an initialize drive message, then that's a sign that computer is seeing the drive.
In the initialize drive window, you have the option to use either the MBR or GPT partition style. If your SSD is less than 2 TB, either one will do, but GPT isn't compatible with some older versions of Windows, and is required if you install Windows on that drive (secure boot). If your SSD is more than 2 TB, then GPT is your only option, as MBR can't be used due to limitations. Right click on your new SSD drive in the bottom half of Disk Management (unallocated with a black line at the top) and select new simple volume from the menu. Follow the steps to partition and format the new SSD. If not selected, choose NTFS from the file system drop down box and make sure quick format is checked. The last screen will confirm the changes that will be preformed to the drive. Click finish to proceed. When it finishes, the drive will appear under This PC and can then be used for storage.
