hard drive disk keeps filling up

i got a new computer a couple of months back and lately the hard drive has been filling up very fast for no reason that i can see. i loaded a few games on and thats about it but it keeps filling up at a rate of about 5-10gb per week. i tried ccleaner and that had no affect. its a 1 tb hard drive and so far its used up 350gb even though when i open up the c-drive files and highlight everything and go into propertys the total amount that i can see in there is about 74gb.

its an inspiron 3847 running windows 7 pro

i have no idea whats going on so any help would be appreciated!!! thanks

Take a look at this. The article provides information on how to set the amount of space system restore uses.

Open Disk Management and see how the hard drive is partitioned. Always mention your model computer and operating system when posting.

Hi Yingzy,

Mary's suggestion was to open Disk Management and see how the hard drive is partitioned. Please provide that information.

honestly i dont really know what that means. i opened disk management and there are 4 items; a blank drive that i dont know anything about other then that it is 39mbs and that it says that the oem partition is healthy.

the os(c:) drive that has simple layout, basic type, file system is ntfs, its status is healthy, it has 62% free space of its 908.79gb capacity and no fault tolerance and 0% overhead.

the recovery has the same type and layout as the os(c:) drive and has 49% of its 22.69gb capacity taken up. no fault tolerance and 0%overhead.

the last one is just a game disk. does that help? or am i looking at the wrong thing?

Ok, that looks normal. There are a few utilities that can check for disk usage, such as this one. Try that and tell us which folders are taking up space.

it says that the system volume information is taking up 272.2 gbs. is that normal?

also thank you very much for helping :)

That folder is for system restore points. Delete those and you'll recover some space, but lose the ability to use system restore. You can, however, limit the space used by system restore.
