DW316 administrator block
DW316 cant get past administrator block. Serial number is not recognized by Dell. Spent two hours working on finding a solution. Taking it back for refund.

I am not sure if you have refunded the drive yet, but this article should resolve the issue. From the article, the updated CyberLink software can be downloaded directly from here, which should resolve the issue with the installation.

@DELL-Brad L I just tried this, and setup keeps terminating stating that my OS is not supported, which is Windows 10, even though it says that it's compatible with Windows 10. Original supplied disc works fine.

@Kflash08 I tried it on a Windows 7 system and got the same unsupported error message as well, which also claims that 7 is supported. Apparently the installer for this update is bugged.
EDIT: I think I found the problem. I originally copied the update to a DVD, and then tried installing it off of the disc. That's where it was somehow failing the OS check. Coping the setup files onto the hard drive and then running setup resulted in no issues.

@DELL-Brad L Yes, this was the file from the link that you provided. I unpacked all the files from the zip file into my downloads folder. Then I took all the unpacked files within the DELL_MES240418-01_R3/CMS directory and burned them onto a DVD, because of the autorun.inf file that was present, which told me this was practically a disc image. After burning the files, running setup.exe from the root of the disc resulted in the OS compatibility error message. After copying all files off of the disc into a new folder on the desktop, the OS compatibility error message disappeared. My guess is that the installer is trying to modify a file when initially being run, and it can't do so once it's written onto a disc, and thus throws the OS comparability error. Maybe the better approach was to package the update in an .ISO file, so that it can be recorded to a disc or virtually emulated within the OS, rather than the user manually burning the files to a disc.
However, a new message "This software can only be installed on specify system" then appeared. This is the result of the installer checking for the DW316, and this message needs to be clearer, more like "Dell DW316 was not detected. Please connect the Dell DW316 to your computer and run setup again". After connecting my DW316, I was able to proceed to the installer.
Speaking of compatibility, the installer states that Windows Vista up to Windows 10 is supported, but I found out that PowerDirector isn't compatible with at least a fresh and fully updated install of Windows 7. During the file copying process, it threw out 2 errors, something that it couldn't register DLL files. PowerDirector failed to load after the install, producing the same error messages, but the other programs worked fine. No issues were reported with my Windows 10 system, and PowerDirector at least loads to its main page. PowerDirector in the update is version 19, where it is version 15 on the disc that was provided with my Dell DW316. Power Media Player and Power2Go are the same versions, but newer builds.

@Kflash08 quick question, when downloading the file and then unzipping it, did you try running the setup file directly from the unzipped files (not burning them to disc etc./not the autorun file)? I tested this earlier and it worked on Windows 10, but was going to try and test this on another system with 11.
The Windows 10 system was a Dell and has an internal optical drive but did not ever have a DW316 attached to system.
Also, I heard from the team, can you let me know the system models you were trying this on and which OS versions were installed on those systems?

@DELL-Brad L I tried this on a Dell Inspiron 3583, Dell Vostro 5880, and a HP Pavilion P6. (The HP was running Windows 7 64 bit, the other 2 Windows 10 64 bit). All experienced the OS check error when trying to install from the disc.
The contents were extracted from the zip and saved onto the hard drive first, then everything within the CMS directory was burned on a disc. I didn't try installing directly from the extracted files, only directly from the disc (which failed) and after copying the files from the disc back onto the system's hard drive (which worked). I don't think installing directly from the extracted files would have made a difference.
Surprised that setup allowed you to install the software on your system, as I take it that the DW316 drive is required to be connected to the system in order to proceed, likely due to licensing agreements with CyberLink, unless your internal drive just so happened to be on the list of approved drives.
I haven't found anything else, other than issues uninstalling the previously installed version of CyberLink Media Suite (that originally shipped with the DW316) on the Inspiron 3583. My guess is that the InstallShield installer got corrupt after a Windows 10 version update, back when the updates were in-place upgrades.

@Kflash08 Right, I was honestly surprised it let the software install too. This was on an older i7 7th gen Dell Inspiron with Windows 10. I am going to attempt installing it on an Alienware system that doesn't have an optical drive just to see if it will error out etc., this system has Windows 11, so it might not help out a lot and is more of just a test, to see if it might block the install (since no optical drive at all).
As for Windows 7, I know on the support site it's stating Windows 8.1 and up, but on the product page it states Windows 11 and lower. I think the drive will probably work on a Windows 7 machine, but the software (even though it's stating otherwise during install) might be difficult to get it to work/troubleshoot, especially with limited Windows 7 support.
I think installing directly from extracted files/copied from disc to drive etc. is probably working over directly from the disc because of permissions with the files/folder etc., at least it seems that might be why the admin error was coming up when directly installed from the disc.
Are you needing to use this on the Windows 7 machine too, or was that more for testing? Now that you have it working on the Windows 10 machines, have you had any other errors?

@DELL-Brad L The Windows 7 machine was just for testing purposes. I originally bought the DW316 for my Inspiron 3583, which lacked an internal optical drive. When I came across your initial post above, I decided to try the updated installer to see if anything software-wise was different. I haven't come across any errors after I successfully installed the one from the website.
I just use the suite mainly for Power2Go, though the Power Media Player is nice for watching DVDs, though that seems impractical with an external drive while on the go. I'm surprised that PowerDirector was updated to a more recent version, even though I don't plan on ever using that program. I'm not sure why CyberLink continues to offer a 13 year old version of Power2Go (v8) to OEMs, when the latest version was released several years ago. That version would be more compatible with Windows 10/11, where version 8 was pre-Windows 8.

I think you're right on the Inspiron letting it install due to the internal optical drive. I just tried the installer on the Alienware laptop that doesn't have an optical drive (to test it further/curious etc.) but it errored out with the error message you mentioned before "This software can only be installed on specify system". I can send suggestions to the team for a more detailed error message, but we might be limited on getting this message updated.
If there's any other question on the drive/software installing just let me know.
