I had 8.1 originally and upgraded to windows 10. After that, I purchased another hard drive with windows 10 pro preinstalled on it.

@katrina37 The version of Windows shouldn't matter. Windows uses a generic driver for the optical drive, which has remained the same since the 90s. If the optical drive is connected by a USB port, Windows will use a generic driver as well, also being the same since the 90s.

How did you get your new hard drive with Windows 10 pre-installed on it? Any new hard drive purchased would be blank, and would manually require installing Windows or any other type of OS. If there is nothing important on your computer (personal data, programs, etc.), I would suggest re-installing Windows 10, as it sounds like some kind of configuration or registry issue that's preventing Windows from seeing the drive. While this can be done under Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, and clicking on "Get started" under Reset This PC, I would recommend that you perform a clean install using the installation media, just to make sure that any issues with the current install are cleared.

@Kflash08 I ordered the hard drive online which came with pre-installed Windows 10 pro. I actually went into the computer and checked to see if all the wiring was plugged in. I also changed the battery. The first time I checked it the power wouldn't even come on, so I guess I did not have it wired correctly. After I changed the plug ins and the battery, it is now working. I previously had the wiring unplugged before when I changed the hard drive so I don't think it was the wiring because the power worked then. I'm guessing it must just be because I needed a new battery.
