DVD Drive will not read software after factory reset
I did a factory reset of my laptop (XPS L502X) to go back to Windows 7 from Windows 10 (due to certain incompatibilities).
Afterwards , drive won't read software .
It will however happily burn to a blank disk (using Roxio). It won't however then read the contents.
It will play pre-recorded Film DVD's
I have tried suggestions on these forums such as deleting the driver then re-flashing the BIOS (BIOS is latest version).
I have tried the Microsoft Fixit
Drive is an optiarc dvd+-rw ad-7717h
Device Manager describes it as a CD-ROM
Any ideas please? Need a Christmas Miracle!

Got it
I ran 'Launch Dell Support Centre' from All Programs /Dell/Dell Support Centre , and as soon as it ran it recognised the disk.
thanks

Hi Nickojames,
When you ran the fixit utility, you should have gotten a report telling you what if anything was fixed. What did the utility report?

Please try the Dell diagnostics on your drive. Run the read test with both a data CD and a data DVD in the drive.
