DELL XPS L502X (year 2012) - from hdd to ssd -

Hello everyone,

since my dell xps l502x with 750gb hdd is getting really slow, but the hardware is still very good for a laptop, I want to try to improve it by changing the hdd with a ssd.

I bought a Samsung SSD 500GB 850EVO SATA III and a Aukey case to connect it through USB to my laptop.

I would like to copy the entire hdd on the ssd ( excluding personal data like documents, music and pictures) so i don't have to install windows 7 again after replacing the hdd.

What are the precise instructions that i should follow ?

Did anyone already do it and have some personal advice?

I m not a professional, but I'm trying to learn by doing ( and by reading on the internet :D ).

Thanks a lot for your help.

What you will need to do is use the software that came with (or is downloadable through) samsung to 'clone' your HDD to the SSD. This will make an exact duplicate but will include your personal files.  I'm not sure of any software that would copy everything but your personal files and most people who are doing what you want to do want the HDD cloned. You might run into a problem because your SSD is smaller than your HDD and some cloning software freaks out.  If all goes well with the cloning, you just install the SSD by first removing the HDD and then boot up the computer.  DO NOT format or delete the HDD until the SSD has fully booted and everything is there.  If all goes well you shouldn't have any errors.
