Dell XPS 8700 - Replace Internal HDD with SSD

Hello

Hope you're having a good day.

I have a Dell XPS 8700 with Windows 8.1 64Bit, BIOS A11, mSATA 32GB, 2TB HDD, 16GB RAM and Intel RST Software. All this is how I bought the PC and upgraded the BIOS to the latest A11 version.

Really happy with this PC, but I want to install an SSD to replace the existing HDD.

I want to use an imaging backup software to clone existing HDD and restore onto the SSD.

I read a few different articles, but not quite clear on all the steps and really need some expert help please.

Could an expert on the XPS 8700 please to help me, as would like to have a detailed step-by-step guide on the whole process from start to finish i.e. also need to know what to change in the BIOS (SATA setting only has AHCI or RAID - current setting), what to change in the Intel RST software that is loaded automatically on boot-up and can be seen in the Taskbar as well. I don't want to reinstall the OS and only want to use cloning software to reduce the whole SSD upgrade.

Many thanks for your help and time in advance, it is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

-HTG-

Hi.

Welcome to our community.

Please find the answers below,

1- Although the hardware might support it, we haven’t tested the XPS 8700 configuration with an SSD. Hence we cannot guarantee the performance.

2- With regards to cloning, we do not support cloning or using a 3rd party software to back up the data. We request you to use the Dell backup and recovery software to back up the data to an external hard drive. Once the data is backed up, you can use the image from the external HDD to the new one. Here’s the link to know more about Dell Backup and Recovery and to download the software.
