computer not powering up when an additional hdd drive is added
Just bought a new ecs1250 dell computer to replace my old dell Inspiron. First day, the computer would not power up at all. Dell sent me a new power supply which solved that problem. When I attempted to add an additional internal HDD drive, the computer will not power up. When the drive is detached from the motherboard, the computer works find. I have used both the old power cable and a new sata cable along with a new power and sata cable. I get the same results. Is there something I doing work or is the computer faulty?

Hi
I can only point out that you need to reject it if it is unacceptable within 30 days?
So perhaps get DELL to remote in to your machine and run their own diagnostics.

Hi,
From what you’ve described, it doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything wrong. If the PC only refuses to power on when that extra HDD is connected, it could be a power delivery or motherboard issue. A brand-new system shouldn’t behave like that. You could try plugging the drive into a different SATA port or testing the HDD in another machine just to rule out a bad drive. But honestly, since it’s under warranty, I’d get Dell support involved straight away — they can run remote diagnostics and, if needed, send a replacement part or system. No point in struggling with a new machine that should just work out of the box.

Thank you for responding to my post. I have gotten Dell support involved, but they are stating my HDD drive is corrupt and need to buy one from them. The HDD drive works fine through the USB ports via adapter. The motherboard only has one slot for an additional drive. The system fine right now as is. Its just an inconvenience to keep plugging in the HDD.
