cd/dvd drive
My cd/dvd drive doesn't work properly. Diagnostics gave me error code 0147, optical drive 0 self test spindle test failed. I've seen some answers to similar questions that the drive needs to be replaced, but am confused as other answers are contradictory. Is this a hardware or software issue? I have run the Fix-it utility which found a problem but couldn't fix it. Haven't tried the upper/lower filter delete yet. Why? Registry fear. Suggestions much appreciated.

It's a hardware issue, error code 0147 means your optical drive is failing or has failed already and you need to replace it.
