Cannot upgrade TB16

I buyed a new XPS 15 9570 and the TB16 Docking station to attach 3 monitors.

Unfortunately, I only get 2 of them working. No matter how I connect them.

So I read that the TB16 Firmware can be upgraded to fix some issues. But the Upgrade always fails at "Dock NVM" and "Cable NVM".

The log file says:

---- Firmware Update Status ----
Thunderbolt Dock Firmware Update failed
Executing: C:\Users\Vince\AppData\Local\Temp\Dell\FWUpdateCmd.exe UpCable C:\Users\Vince\AppData\Local\Temp\Dell\Cable.bin
WindowsDriversFirmwareUpdate returns : 0x102)

---- Firmware Update Status ----
Thunderbolt Cable Firmware Update failed
WindowsDriversFirmwareUpdate Status Code: 0x1000a)

Windows is freshly installed with all the latest updates.

What can I do now?

Same problem here. Spent 3 months answering questions from level 1 support. No suggestions, no solutions, they tried to blame it on the TB 16 having a 1 year warranty and because it is out of warranty they are not responsible to have any sort of solution. The problem is not with the TB 16 it is with Dell not keeping up with Intel Thunderbolt driver releases of which they were a year behind and only recently brought up to date. The Dock NVM and Cable DVM refer to the Dell dock and Dell dock cable so this is a driver issue on the Dell computer attached to this. It cannot read the current version so it does not know what to install as it cannot tell if the new driver available is the same or not. This is a simple glitch in the software code that Dell has on its firmware update utility to detect the version date for these two NVM drivers but their support and ability to fix any issue is almost non-existent. It is an easy fix but Dell wont take the time to do it and it has nothing to do with the Dock.

Funny thing is their tech support recommended I buy a new dock but they do not make a new Thunderbolt dock that is compatible with a Precision 5510 Workstation which is only 2 years old. It seems they expect you to throw away a 2 year old computer and buy a new one. Their tech support has become so bad that I have to resolve 99% of the issues as you explain the problem over and over again and never get a fix, just the same question from agents that do not read the case history to see that you answered the same questions 3 times.

Same here,

DELL Latitude 7285 with TB16 dock is sometimes really a mess.

Sometimes I have a POST error message "Multiple docking stations are not simultaneously supported" - altghough only (TB16) is attached. Only
a) clear the BIOS event logs
b) reset the system BIOS to factory defaults
helps.

DELL, are you serious?!

Trying to update the firmware of the TB16 (with firmware update file 01.00.05)

Everything is up to date except:
Cable NVM (current 00.00.15 new 00.00.16): Thunderbolt Cable Firmware Update failed
DELL TB16 Cable PD: will not start to update because firmware update failed at Cable NVM

No hint why firmware update failed. Latest Thunderbold driver from DELL driver & support site for 7285 installed.
Unplugged TB16 several times.
