Can I Upgrade an Inspiron 640M/E1405 With a SSD?
Hi Guys
I have an 8 year old Inspiron 640M and am looking to jazz it up a bit with a 120Gb/240Gb SSD, I was thinking a Kingston Hyper X or similar.
Will the "old faithful" be able to handle it? Running Win XP SP3
Any help on this old machine is much appreciated

Hi viperspirit,
Yes, your laptop controller supports an SSD. Keep in mind that some SSDs are too slim for the space, and you need to pay close attention to the hard drive connection.

Also of note: XP doesn't have native support for TRIM, so if you really plan on continuing with XP, be sure you find a drive that has suitable TRIM drivers, or the OS will thrash the drive into oblivion in short order.
You really should not be running XP at this point, as it has been obsolete for over a year and in that time, has seen no security updates.

Cheers for the reply. I managed to get a suitable drive that fits the space well. So no movement or banging around.

Very good point, thankfully already considered. Have a licence for Win7 Pro, ready to go. Cheers for the reply.
