Blu Ray Drive can't read DVDs. It can read CDs and Blu Ray Disks, but not DVDs.
I recently lost my hard drive. Dell sent me a new drive complete with the drivers that came with the computer.
I just noticed that my Blu Ray Drive is no longer reading DVDs. I don't know if the hard drive failure has anything to do with it, or if it is coincidental.
Windows says that I have the most current driver.
The computer is a Dell XPS 8300. The Blu Ray Drive is: hl-dt-st bd-re bh30n.
The drive has not been used hardly at all. I have read that there are separate eyes for the Blu Ray vs. DVD, so perhaps the DVD portion has failed.
I'm still suspicious that I'm missing a piece of software or a changed setting.
Any ideas?

For all of you poor souls that have shared my problem out on the internet, I got beyond this. Even though everywhere said that I had the most recent driver, I found someone who said that they had uploaded a more recent driver form the LG site and it fixed the problem. Well, BH30N was not a model # on the LG site, but I found one here: http://www.firmwarehq.com/download_1703-file_BH30N-A103.zip.html Norton said it was o.k., I clicked on the EXE file, it said it had updated me from A101 to A103 and suggested I reboot. Once I did this, my Blu Ray drive will read DVDs just fine.

Hi Lsweeney,
This normally points to a hardware issue with one of the lasers or lenses. Try running the Dell diagnostics with a various disc types. If the diagnostics can read a CD or BD not not a DVD, then you'll need to replace the drive.

Yes, I ran the diagnostics. Both Windows and the Dell diagnostics say that there is not a disk in the drive even though there is and I've tried multiple disks.
As a last ditch I purchased a drive cleaner, but I'm not holding my breath. I do have a lot of dust, though.
