2nd optical drive, XPS 8700
I bought a 2nd optical drive that is the same model as the first one that came with this desktop. It's a TSST SH-216DB. How do I remove the black plastic flat bezel on the front of the new drive and then how do I remove the bezel from the empty 2nd slot on the PC (which I assume drops down with a spring when opened like the 1st drive) and attach it to the new drive? So that when I'm done, both optical drives look the same on the outside and operate similarly.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, it is already there and there should be a open second 5.25" for the drive, all you will need to, is remove the 'Break-away' metal plate.
My experience with Dell computers that have the front bezel's spring optical drive 'Door' is already there and there's nothing to do, except install the drive, because when the disc is ejected, the optical drive's tray operates the door automatically.
All you should require, are two M3 X1/4, phillips, or hex head screws are needed to install the drive in the bay and a 18" SATA data cable, there should be spare SATA power connector already inside the case.
Respectfully suggest that you remove the cover and the front bezel to check things out.

The procedures for installing the drive can be found here:
http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_xps_desktop/xps-8700_Owner%27s%20Manual_en-us.pdf
How to remove the front bezel, see pages 21 and 45
How to remove the knockout in the 5.25" drive bay.
You can used the same instructions as given for the hard drive, on page 42.

Thanks, Bev.
Yes, I did review the owner's manual. What it doesn't cover is getting the front, flat, plastic frontpiece ("bezel"?) off my new 2nd optical drive (same model as my original first drive, which remains in place) and then being able to attach to that new drive a spring drop-down frontpiece that I assume (hope) is currently in the 2nd, empty drive slot, so that the new drive looks from the front like the 1st one and works like it, with a drop-down, spring-loaded frontpiece. I haven't opened the case yet, so I don't know if a spring-loaded frontpiece is there for the 2nd, currently empty drive slot or not.
Can you assist with any info on changing out the plastic frontpiece on my new 2nd drive?

Answered by Bev. Many thanks, Bev.
For anyone else reading this: I don't know why the text above doesn't look like what I saw, but the two screws Bev identified in what I saw are 6-32X1/4.

Happy to have helped.
I edited the post and changed the description to M3.
