2 Drives not recognised by Vista

My New Dell Inspiron has 2 Optical Drives and although both appear in the device manager, they have a? against them and do not appear in My Computer. They both say: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available. But this does nothing. One is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N ATA the other TSST Corp DVD Rom TS-H353B ATA I am runnin Vista Home Premium Any thoughts?

How about first uninstalling through device manager, reboot and let your system detect them.

Try this Dell Article for removing the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters
in the Registry here .............

Disregard the reference to Roxio.

Thanks - I tried that but no joy - they re-appear in the Device list with the ! against them. Interestingly in Computer there is no Dive E & F although the other drives G - K are all allocated. Any other thoughts?

Try this:   Look for detecting and install drivers ( section 15).     Good luck!

Please try removing the upper and lower filters are suggested above.

This is the problem with multiple people chiming in. The OP gets confused and the proper course of action is not followed.

It usually occurs during the uninstall of a software program; most
commonly burning software, but not limited to only that.
