Unable to create ONM file

I am sure this error would be common to many setup. One setup I have worked with gives this error very frequently and therefore the customer is reluctant in using it.

The setup is Windows 2003 SP2, SPL 2000 SP4 & Lotus Domino 8.0. Everything works fine here, the archiving...shortcutting etc. but in almost every mailbox at the end of an archiving job you get some messages not getting archived with this error. What is the root cause?

Support has picked up these two mails, put them in a new nsf file and archived them properly without the error. They concluded it to be a mail file problem. But the questions are simple:

1. What is the problem with the mail file that EX cannot archive some mails? Mails can be opened otherwise and you can work on the nsf then why this problem with specific mails? Customer agrees that there could be some problem with the mail files (all mail files: agreement is sarcastic) but as a product/service provider, we expects us to answer some way to avoid these errors OR atleast a better reporting may be a daily summary of what mails could not be archived so that he does need to dig logs everytime for this.

2. Would this happen to journaling also OR only archive jobs?

3. What would happen if he shortcuts these mails which could not be archived? Normally you would just run the shortcut task over the mailbox for same specifications as archive task?

Any help/suggestions?

WDU - we have the same issue - how many servers do you have? With 18 Xtender servers, it takes around 3.5 - 4 minutes to open the client or 12 - 15 seconds per server to authenticate. Do the maths with your environment.

We "finally" got confirmation that they are bringing out a hotfix for it. It was due to be released last Friday 15th but was delayed.

Check with your support rep but we rolled back to 4.7 client and it autheticates within seconds.

If it helps my Service Request ID: 24291040

I got this answered from EMC Support: If the mail has any of the 8-10 attributes EX checks for, it would not archive the mail and will give the above error. If you run a shortcut task, it would not shortcut a mail that did not get archived.
