Trouble opening Shortcutted emails.

Hi,
I have installed Email Xtender Archive Edition 4.81.655 on the server and the user client version is Email Xtender Client Edition 4.81.655.
When a few users are trying to open Shortcutted emails, all they get is the email window with the "To", "From" and "Subject" information. The body of the email is completely blank. After opening the email, if we close it and wait for 10 - 15 seconds, the body of the email gets populated. Then, the email can be double clicked and opened without any problems.

However, before the body of the email gets populated, if we try to open the email again, we get the error - "Cannot open restored message. Error code was: -2147221241."

We had Email Xtender Client Edition 4.81.409 earlier. This I upgraded to 4.81.655 recently. For few users there was a great performance enhancement due to this. However, few users face the problem mentioned above.

Please can you provide help or suggestions.

Thank you.

I have the same problem with a NEW installation of 655. Working with support now on this "known issue".

They have been looking at some dll files, and registry entries, but no luck so far.

Workaround for the handful of users right now is to use the search plug in. the email can be retrieved from the SPI without the error.

Sorry - i don't have the ticket - i just have my open SR to go on at this point. I am waiting on a call back from support now, but I had to run a Scut restore task on a few MBx before the users revolt.

John, did they happen to give you the internal case number for this "known issue"? if not, can you ask? Would it happen to be DR-26049?

We too are having shortcut issues, but a bit different.

The ExExch~1.exe process gets hung, requiring us to end them. They respawn. if that doesn't resolve, we stop the ExchangeManager service, end it if necessary, end any ExExch~1.exe again, and restart the service. Then, patiently wait for some time before shortcuts begin.

Build .655 as well.

Your problem is also not affecting all your users whereas mine is.

Have you tried using the update shortcuts option on one of the mailboxes experiencing this?
From what I've heard the difference in shortcuts between builds is not much if not nothing and all are compatible, but worth a try. What it would do is rewrite the shortcuts for that user?

Maybe you have an admin box or something not as important to try that on? or do an Export first :)

Technically it is affecting all of my users - it is halting my implementation, so I only have a few users deployed.

Would updating the shortcuts help with a new (not upgraded) .655 install?

Has anyone tried having Server on 4.81.655 version and clients with Shortcut Add-in ins
stalled from 4.81.564 ? That might work as well till you have a proper fix in place.

I believe 4.81.564 shortcut add-in was really stable.

Thanks,
Raj

That's the suggestion I got from support on Friday.
Seems to be working with the 564 SPI. I tested with my mbx this weekend.

Kinda frustrating having to download an older version after a NEW install of 655 though.

Thanks-
John

Hi Bix,

To my understanding 4.81.564 was taken away because of some bug found in the product when upgraded from certain versions.

Please open an SR with support and they can supply you with what you are looking for. If you are on 4.81.655 code then still speak to EMC support because they should be able to get it addressed in the best possible manner.

Thanks,
Rajan

There are some steps you must do to resolve this issue
IF you are using outlook 2007 in vista follow this steps

1. Launch "regedit" and navigate to HKEY_CLASS_ROOT > Outlook.Application > Current Version.
2. Right click and choose "Permissions".
3. Select "Users" and ensure "Full Control" is selected.
4. Launch Microsoft Outlook 2007.
5. Click Tools > Trust Center and then select Add-Ins.
6. Ensure "Apply macro security settings to installed add-ins." is unchecked.

There is a Hotfix for this issue EmailXtenderHotfix4.81.675(26053) it is for version 4.8 SP1 (655)

I hope this helps you with your problem, it did help me.
