SourceOne PST Ingest Speeds

Is there any guidance relating to expected data ingest rates for the EMC SourceOne archive solution? We are going to be ingesting PST files into SourceOne for legal hold and need to know what to expect in terms of ingest times.

Greetings,

Unfortunately .PST email messages do not capture the BCC information. For legal hold it is must to have messages processed through journaling mailbox. You may ingest the messages but on legal hold side you will not receive BCC results.

Greetings,

There is no one size fits all kind of figures that could be provided.

Processing is dependent on following things:

1. How quickly SourceOne workers can read data from file system where PST files are located.

2. How quickly SourceOne workers can write to Message Center location when it makes copies of the messages from PST.

3. How SourceOne SQL server will behave especially ES1Archive DB because while archiving messages each message goes through many stored procedures to either add data to SQL or to check if message is just a duplicate because another copy has already been archived.

4. How many workers will be processing how many jobs at the same time.

Note: Another thing to take care of is to make sure you allow enough ObjtMessage and ObjtFolders to be opened at the same time by a MAPI session if you will be migrating PST to user mailboxes.

Best regards,

Rajan
