Search doesn't work
Hi there
We're having problems with the Ex search. It never runs. When I try to stop the Legato services, ExEmail.exe and ExEmail.exe don't stop. I have to shut them down manually. When I restart the services, the Ex search will run for an hour or so, then the same procedure again.
I'm trying to locate the troubles. What I found out, is the following. Emailxtender creates lots of mail profiles on the Ex server (Control Panel/Mail). It's full of new profiles named exMail15845, exMail16129....
Is this normal?
Did anyone have troubles with the Ex search as well?
Regards,
Rod

not sure that I can help. We also have lots of MAPI-profiles you describe. Don't know if this does create a problem like your search issue.
I have never had a problem with search. With ExSearch, you mean the client component? Does it work on the server locally? Or do you mean the service? - I am not sure I follow your descrption about stopping the services ("ExEmail.exe and ExEmail.exe" are the same to me).
Are there any events in the OTG-log?
If search doesn't work or the serivce just stops, the MAPI profile is correct (you can open Outlook on the EX-server and access user mailboxes)... I wouldn't hesitate to contact EMC support for this kind of problem.
Hope this helps. Kind regards,
Jochen.

Thank you for answering.
Yes I mean the search installed on the Outlook clients to search the Emailxtender. It doesn't work on the server either. You start the Emailxtender Search, then it will be "not responding".
Sorry about the services. It's ExEmail.exe and ExQuery.exe. After shutting down, they both stay "stopping".
In the OTG-log there weren't any severe messages. I now installed DebugView, maybe it will give any hints. I will open a call at EMC support and let you know.
Merry x-mas

interesting and weird, since locally on the server, this should work properly. When opening ExSearch, a MAPI profile needs to be configured. Given this, then the services might just be the problem (it doesn't connect properly so you get the time out). The services should have no problem restarting properly...
DebugView is very good, you might just find something.
Sorry of not being of more help. But I had one or two issues this year with services where I got a hotfix for it from EMC. So with service related problems, I let the vendor help!
Merry Chritmas to you too.
Jochen.

It would immediately restart Exquery.exe on Task Manager as well as service and your Search plug-in would start working again.

It must have been the anti virus software. Since we installed the last patch a week ago, the search works perfect.
Additional things to do:
Reserve a range of ports for EX in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\ReservedPorts
and configure port allocations for EX processes in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\services
Exclude directories for antivrus scan. See 3-51 in ExInstallGuide.
