Recovery Plan for SourceOne environment?
Looking for some guidance on backup/recovery of a SourceOne environment. Single SourceOne application server (virtual), S1 MSSQL databases hosted on a separate server (also virtual), storage on Clariion SAN. No failover site or replication to other location. Backups are traditional tape based backups, with standard MSSQL database dumps configured as well. Used for scheduled mailbox archiving and attachment shortcuttting of mail hosted on a single MS Exchange server.
What is the required timing/choreography of the nightly scheduled backup of all components?
-
SourceOne application files (executables)
-
Archived data hosted on SourceOne application server
-
Working directory on SourceOne application server
- MSSQL Database
How does the scheduled archiving and shortcutting process fit into this procedure from a timing/scheduling perspective?
What would be the recovery procedure in the event something bad happened to the hardware? Presuming freshly built replacement servers were provisioned with storage and connectivity, and a good copy of last nights backup tapes were ready for data restoration.

Are you a vmware shop? You mentioned you backup to tape - how is your recovery plan for other servers / vm's? Have you looked at any vm specific backup programs like vRanger from Vizioncore or esXpress? These products allow you to backup the vm as a whole - you could back them to local disk somewhere then dump them to tape to send offsite.
To recover you won't need like hardware - just ESX assuming thats your virtualization platform.
