Questions on EX Platform...ie Server Version vs. OWA plugin vs. UC

Hey all,

It's been awhile since I've checked in the downloads section for EX and noticed a new 1147 version of the EX platform.

I'm running EX b655 and its been humming along relatively quiet for the last several months. One reason I didn't try upgrading to a new build was that the new UserCache server install had to force each client to upgrade to the same build. It took over a year to get UC out to all my users (750) in between all of the EX bugs we were finding. The old versions of UC used to be able to still talk to an upgraded UC server.

Now that there's a swanky new S1 version of Offline Access, I'd like to be able to give my users access to it...but do I have to upgrade my EX platform to 1147 before starting to use it?

On my machine that was running Outlook2k7 not in exchanged cached mode, with only my search plugin and I went ahead and installed the new S1 offline access program for grins and giggles. I like it...seems much quicker, but the emails with attachments don't allow me to click the attachment (say a word file) and preview it within the mail window. Not sure if this is normal.

Also...my users have thousands of shortcut messages in their mailboxes and it is NOT possible to restore all of them.

Anyone have any experience upgrading the UC program to the S1 version for a large number of people. I saw it came with an ADM file which is great...so I assume I can push the settings and program down. But will it upgrade the UC or remove it and install the S1?

Any thoughts or experiences with upgrading EX platform and taking advantage of the S1OA in lieu of the old UC program would be much appreciated.

Hello,

SourceOne Offline Access for EmailXtender is a really nice piece and it has addressed many issues that were not early addressable in user cache.

As you have downloaded Offline Access kit for EmailXtender, its documenation already clarifies what you need to accomplish the goal. As you might have already seen what you have downloaded is only the client piece and it does not have server piece, that is because UC server is till the one that will be used to do the job of proxy between client and EX server.

All you need to be aware of is the fact that Offline Access needs a certain version of UC server that is already mentioned somewhere in the documentation.

What you need to find out is that what version of client software for UC you have on the client machines because that is what you want to be working while you are rolling out offline access. If the version of client you have in your environment is compatible with the UC server version you will need for Offline Access then you are all set to go. I am not sure if having EX on 4.81.1147 is a core requirement but you can clrify that by opening service request with support.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Raj

Hey Raj,

Thanks for the insight. I installed the S1 client on my client PC and it correctly spoke with our UC server...i can't remember what build the UC server component was, but it was like 1123. I then upgraded the UC server component to 1406 and all clients (UC and my S1) are successfully connecting to that. So believe it or not...there really was no requirement needed for the UC server build. I know that b1336 of UC server required ALL clients to be at the same build revision as well...but that requirement was not needed when installing b1406...thank heavens.

Now for a client side question in regards to tying into Outlook 2007:
Is there anything I can do to make Outlook 2007's preview attachment tab work normally?...ie, I can click the attachment tab, and preview it within the email window.

I know this is off topic, but I was hoping that someone could help. I have an existing S1 server (version 6.50.1694). I would like to upgrade it to version 6.50.4115. There are some SQL scripts that need to be run for the database upgrades, but it does not come with the install package as downloaded from Powerlink. Does anyone know where I can get these scripts?

Raj -

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it says "You must contact your EMC support representative to obatin the scripts used in this procedure. Place the script on the SQL Server host computer."

However, it seems like no one has these scripts. I've tried several different avenues, but to no avail.

Hello Kauanoe Eldredge,

How did you recieve 6.50.1694 version ? If it was provided under some early addoption program then you might want to talk to coordinator of that program.

Worst come worst speak to support who might know someone that could help you with this.

Thanks,
Raj
