Moving oldest Mail data from Centera to other type of storage.

Hello. I'm looking for validation that what we are trying to do is even possible. Secondly, how to go about the task(s).

Environment
Our Archive Messaging environment uses EmailXtender 4.81 build 655, DiskXtender 6.3, and a Centera for storage.

Question(s)
- Using Email Xtender, how do we move the oldest data (mail) mail from the Centera to another storage device? The Storage device may be a device like Tivoli Storage Manager.

Once the data has been moved to another storage device,

- How do we prevent users from searching for emails older than a certain time period, but allow us, the Messaging Administrators, to still perform searches against all archived data?

and

- How do we free up the space on the Centera?

I appreciate any comments.

I wanted to wrap this one up. We will be using the Compact Task in DiskXtender to pull back the data from the Centera, strip the tags, and then move them to another form of media.

Hi Wisers,

thanks for the update. Well, you'd need to do that data moving with DiskXtender, while you can remove the EmailXtender volumes with the Administrator. That also clears the index data so that the users cannot search old mails.

Keep well,
Jochen.
