Is there a guide for deleting from Archive?
We're running EmailXtender 4.8 SP1. I've read the "Applying Information Lifecycle Management to E-mail Messages" whitepaper and found a lot of good information. It discusses the lifecycle of e-mail and briefly mentions clean up/destruction of content after the lifecycle is over. I've been able to find information on how to delete from the Exchange server, but I'm looking specifically for a whitepaper or for some guidelines on how to delete from the Archived information. Does something like this exist? I've seen some information in the admin guide, but nothing that specifically tells me how to delete files from the Archive. For example, we archive data older than 180 days and have retention specified for 2 years. Once the retention period is over, I want to delete content older than the 2 year retention period. I assume this is possible - does anyone do this or know of where I can find more information on how to do this? Or even what to search on to get this type of information?

no, I don't know of a guide either. But it's rather basic. Delete the volume (this takes the index away) and remove the volume information from your EmailXtender-drive (or extended drive assuming you use something like this with retention).
As my clients all retain info for longer than 10 years, I didn't need to work this out for them yet!
When deleting info older than 2 years, the users have no copy of this accessible from their mailboxes. So if you have shortcuts created in the users mailboxes make sure you take these away as well.
Hope this helps. Regards,
Jochen.

What I can understand from your post is something that is not a out of box functionality for the EX.
EX cannot do the job automatically, but EX can tell you when the retention is over and then you can educate Admins on how to clean up the monthly data using EX Admin GUI and then moving the containers to another location after taking their backup.
All that you want to achieve is something that consulting groups do. If you will engage EMC Consulting group for EmailXtender I am pretty sure they will come up with a plan that you can follow. We need to remember it would be a with a charge from consulting group.
As such I am not aware of any documented procedure from EMC Support/Supportability. Long ago when I attended EmailXtender Administration class then there used to be a topic on Retention preriods and how to work with those. I am not sure if its still in the training material or not.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
