Is there a Best Practices guide for EmailXtender 4.8 SP1 ?
I have not been able to find a --Best Practices for EmailXtender 4.8 SP1--.
Do you know if such a document exists ?
If not, is there something similar ?
I have the Admin Guide and Install Guide and Release Notes.

I have a document called "Applying Information Lifecycle Management to E-mail Messages". It's about EmailXtender, but from October 2007. Search in Powerlink for "Applying Information Lifecycle" (including inverted commas). Only one result is coming up. You decide if the doc is helpful.
Apparently, EMC internally has much more information (obviously), but doesn't share this freely. I guess they want to get their consultants out.
If you have further questions, just post/search them in this forum.

I am going to keep this thread open a bit longer.
I would like more information about how people use the Delete function to remove old data.
(That was discussed somewhat in that paper.)
Also, do people have 2 processes to find email -- one for very new email that is not yet in the EX system and a different process for email that is already in EX ?
(Assuming we will not use Journaling and will not archive (copy) emails into EX until the email is 30 (or 100 ?) days old.

when mentioning the "delete function", you mean that of EmailXtract?! - At one client, I delete specific emails from a scanner which the people have to save in the network drives. You could also you this function to delete mails older than x years to free up space since the data was archived before.
With "2 processes to find email" I guess you mean that people can 1) still use Outlook search to find what's in Outlook and 2) the archive search for everything in the archive. That is correct.
1) Be aware that you'll find in Outlook whatever information you leave in the mailbox (e.g. it's not recommended to shortcut the message body from mails; so you'd always find the info in Outlook). To search in attachments has always been a challenge for Outlook...
2) You'll only find messages in the archive (never mind if you shortcutted them) that were previously archived. EX always index header, message and attachments full text.
In your case, if you archive data older than X days and shortcut only attachments (attachments often take up 80-90% of the users mailbox space), users can just carry on searching as they have done previously in Outlook.
