Installing 4.81 EX Client for Outlook - Says Sucessful but not really.

Hello, EX 4.8.1.1147 Exchange.

We are planning on rolling out the EX client to a domain.  New EmailXtender server has been created and it is actively journaling.  EX search client works on the new EX server no problem.

At the clients, we go to install the EX plug-in, and it states sucessful, however it is not.  There is no Outlook EX Icon.  When I search the drive there is no exsearch.exe and no folder called c:\program files\OTG!   The event log simply states that Installshield had a sucessful install of the client.  The machine I was working on was a spanish one, so i decided to add a new workstation to the domain and try there.  Still the same result.

Good Afternoon.

Can you confirm that you're attempting to install the EmailXtender Search plugin, or attempting to install the EmailXtender Shortcut Addin.  (Shortcut addin will not have an icon within Outlook...)

We should have an entry within the Control panel > Add/Remove Programs

Thanks

Hi Wiser,

A little more info would help. Are you running installer using executable or MSI extracted from executable ? Also what command line are you using to install ? if so far you are installing using command line then try by doubleclicking on the executable and see what happens(make sure you are logged on to client machine using service account). I do not think there is any other log file than the one you are looking at in Documents & settings sub folders.

Thanks,

Rajan

I am running the installer found in the 1147 package folders.

I am doubleclicking on the executable

I am not logged on as the EX service account to the workstation, but I am local administrator.

Is there a log somewhere else that I should be looking for.

Thanks.

Yes, Search Plug-in also has shortcut add-in built into it.

Thanks,

Just to elaborate further do not get confused between search plug-in and shortcut add-in. Shortcut add-in is only for shortcut resolution and not for search, whereas Search Plug-in does both the jobs.

Thanks,

Rajan

That was quite the oversight on my part.  Thanks for the information.

YES, aparently I have been trying to install the wrong thing.  That is great.

Is this correct,

The exShortcutAddin.exe gives the ability to open shortcutted Items, and the exClientSetup.exe provides the EX Search feature (with icon in Outlook).

If that is correct, does the exClientSetup.exe include the ability to open shortcutted items as well.
