Frontend and backend servers, where to install OWA shortcut support ?
Hi,
We have an Exchange 2003 cluster environment with seperate frontend and backend servers. Only on the frontend servers we have OWA.
Where do we have to install OWA Shortcut Support ? Only on the frontends or also on all nodes of the backend servers ?
Edwin.

front-end servers if you are using Microsoft Exchange 2000 or
2003. There's more info on Cluster installation in the EX Install Guide.
You can download the installation package and the documentation here:

Frank is right; OWA support needs only to be installed on the back-end as the OWA web sites are "generated" on the Exchange back-end server.
My installations of OWA support prior to EX 4.8 SP1 had to manually be changed (permissions etc.). With Ex 4.8 SP1, this worked on the first go. And with clusters, one doesn't want to "play around" too much...
What I found misleading in the installation of the OWA shortcut support on the back-end: You'll get the question if you install this on the active or passive node. EMC Support told me the recommendation is installing this on both nodes (after each other without an Exchange failover). This means that you do an installation on the active node and afterwards on the passive node. There is a reboot required afterwards. - Don't just install this on the passive node with an exchange failover and afterwards to another passive installation on the other node; apparently, this won't work.
Good luck,
Jochen.
