Fetching Mail Statistics from an EX/DX/Centera environment.

Hello,

Although these question may involve DX and Centera actions as well, I think the best place to start is the EmailXtender forum, because at least one of the answers lie with Xtender administrator etc.

1. How many total messages are archived which are older than 18 months and what is the total size. EX Admin shows the breakdown by month (Total msgs and size) but can we consider this accurate, and is there anyway to total this up automatically.
3. Is there a way to find out the volume of archived messages per user/per month.
4. We want to know what emails are being retrieved. i.e. Received Date, User, Date of retrieval for a specified period of time.

Jochen, thanks for the response.
I'm going to see what exadmin can give me in the columns, and total them up manually :(

Hi Wisers,

that's advanced reporting... ;-) Reporting isn't really a strong point of EmailXtender.

ad 1) You don't get this easily. Have you had a look at "Archive Process Tracking Reports"? I haven't installed or tested it. I also doubt you can generate reports on previously archived info.

But that's the best I can think of (ExAdminGuide.pdf)
◆ Total number of messages that were written to journal mailboxes
◆ Total number of messages that were archived to the EmailXtender
database
◆ The collection rule that captured each message for archiving
◆ Total number of messages that were filtered out of the journaling
process by exclusion rules
◆ The exclusion rule that filtered out each message

ad 3) See above.

ad 4) Search could be audited, but pure retrieval from EX to your messaging system is in to my knowledge not audited. Have a look at auditing: "Standard Reports"

The problem with auditing is, that only access of admins or supervisors is audited, but not the access to the users own mail.

Hope that helps somehow. Don't want to discourage you. I personally hope the new version EX 6.5 has better reports.

Keep well, Jochen.

Sorry for that! But one customer of mine has scripted an exStatus report daily and saves this information. There is a "EmailXtender Volume Status" that gives the size and the number of mails.

From that, he has an Excel list, where he enters the info and sees the growth per months... done manually. He wan't interested in the reporting function mentioned earlier.

Keep well, Jochen.
