EX Message Center not cleaned up

We've noticed a lot of messages still within the Message Center that spans years (goes back to 2006).  All of the volumes during this time period are closed.  We did an EX Search (spot checked) for some of the email using the message id, and the ones that we've checked show up in the archive (able to open the email too).  Does anyone know of a utility that will clean up the Message Center?

OK...we will engage EMC Tech Support just for verification purposes.  Thanks.

Hello,

While there is not a specific utility to clean up messages that have been left behind in the MSGCenter folder, EMC Support can assist with the cleanup.  Over the years there have been a few problems that resulted in files (.msg and other) being left behind after the message was archived.  Support will double-check that everything in the MSGCenter is archived before deleting the files.

There are a few scenario's where files will remain in the MSGCenter after the message has been archived and the volume they exist in closed.  However, these scenario's would result in the files sticking around for maybe a few weeks at most, not several years.

Thanks!

Andrew

There are other folders that we are seeing old legacy email, such as:

D:\Program Files\OTG\EmailXtender\EmailVault\BadDir

D:\Program Files\OTG\EmailXtender\EmailVault\DropDir

D:\Program Files\OTG\EmailXtender\WEB

Would you happen to know why messages from here would not be cleaned up?  We did a few spot checks on the last 2 folders, and messages show up in the archive when doing an EX Search.  (BTW - do you know what the WEB folder is used for?)

Thanks.

To clean the MsgCenter you can follow the manual instructions located in esg69415

The "CleanMsgCenter" tool was not provided to me upon request, but the manual steps worked well enough.

Please do not use esg69415 as that might not be applicable. This was written in on the time of EX 4.6 and since then there has been way many changes in the code. Before deleting anything from EX server one should consult support.

Rajan,

Under Support case 34384106 I was advised to follow the procedure in 69415; the tool was not going to be provided to me.  My version number was stated in the case as 4.8 SP1.

The msgcenter and other locations continue to fill up with items not deleted after processing.  What does one do in this situation, as it seems that more than a few people speak of this situation?

Good Morning,

First, I want to apologize for the confusion regarding the issue you are seeing.

As Andrew Said, there are many reasons why messages would remain in the MsgCenter Location,

From our record, I see you had issues recently that could explain some of the messages left in the message Center.

Dealing with this issue via a Forum is not constructive, what I would recommend at this time is for you to open a new Support Ticket with us and let us have a look at it more closely.

You can open a ticket with us a few different ways,

1)  From Powerlink :

Live Chat :  Home > Support > Request Support > Live Chat

Traditional Support : Home > Support > Request Support > Create Service Request

2)  By Phone :

          Toll Free Number  : 1-877-534-2867

On a side note, for Solution Note # esg69415, I will review it and possibly mark it as Obsolete if it is no longer applicable.
